lightspeed derby

Baseline were commissioned to design and build a website for LightSpeed Derby, a Derby Cityscape project supported by funding from EMDA through Derby City Council's Single Programme.

The main purpose of this website was to gather data and to inform, but ultimately encourage BT to invest in the city of Derby with regards to super-fast broadband. This investment will help to boost local business and in turn the local economy.

our approach

We designed a website which is visually striking, easy to use and engaging - drawing a user into the website, allowing them to access information via several different routes, encouraging people to register their interest.

From a technical point of view, the LightSpeed Derby website includes some of the following functionality:

  • Built in line with current accessibility / web best practice guidelines
  • Built on a very easy to use Content Management System
  • Include a polling function
  • Data gathering from different sectors, including KML data so that postcodes can be plotted on Google Earth / Google Maps
  • Integrated with email marketing software

project feedback

"Thank you for your time and patience, I must say I think the website has been set up very well"
Michael Mulquin - LightSpeed Derby

The website has had many visitors and enquiries and has been instrumental in raising awareness of the campaign and highlighting the demand for super-fast broadband.  Since the project completion, Derby City Council have taken over the management of the project and we have been commissioned to work on further projects. We are looking forward to a long standing client relationship.

hollingsworth designs

Lynne Hollingsworth, the face behind Hollingsworth Designs, came to us with her existing website and asked us to bring it up to date with new features and a new layout.

We have known Lynne for quite some time and were glad to oblige, using our valuable knowledge and experience to give Lynne's website the makeover that she had asked for.

our approach

Our approach was to look at the existing design which the client was reasonably happy with and streamline what was already there.

We proposed to design a more consistent, more user friendly and a well structured website.

We were extremely pleased with the outcome of the work and were honoured to work with such a fantastic and talented client.

project feedback

Lynne said of the work that we had done for her; "It’s been such a delight to work with the team at Baseline, they are true professionals who have surpassed all our expectations. The website is an important part of our business and it has been reassuring to know that it has been in safe hands, with a team at Baseline who are both creative and incredibly technical."

"Hollingsworth Designs is looking to develop the site further over the coming year by adding new pages, galleries and features. We are looking forward to working with Baseline again and strongly recommend their services as a creative company."

saylavy

Saylavy already had a logo and the beginnings of a brand style, but needed Baseline to streamline the brand style, then create an attractive web and social media presence for the organisation.

our approach

The process for this project was as follows:

  • Streamline the brand style so that everything produced from this point onwards will be consistent, giving a stronger more professional brand
  • Designing a custom illustration / cartoon character to accompany the brand, the purpose of this illustration was to help reinforce the friendly, fun, approachable side of the business
  • Designing and building a content managed website, that is easy to use and built to be search engine friendly. The website also needed to be integrated with Facebook and Twitter
  • Branding of the Saylavy Twitter page

project feedback

This is what the client had to say about the work completed:

"I can't stop smiling! You have totally captured everything I wanted Saylavy to represent. Fantastic work Craig. Thank you so much for listening and delivering exactly what I wanted!"
Sara Gration - Saylavy

wh davis

W H Davis was originally formed in 1910, initially as a repairer and later as a manufacturer of small wooden bodied mineral wagons. W H Davis is now the last independent freight wagon manufacturer in the UK.

W H Davis came to Baseline and asked us to create a website that gave a true reflection of their organisation. They wanted their website to be one that conveyed the stature of their company and a website which would be flexible, allowing them to add new products and services as they arise.

our approach

W H Davis already had a brand in place which wasn't fully utilised. We took time to understand their brand style and then translate this into a new web design to reflect the company.

We built the website on an easy to use Content Management System allowing them to update site easily and regularly.

project feedback

It's amazing to look back at what we previously had and what we have now. We are very happy with results and look forward to working with Baseline in the future.

snowball

Baseline were asked to create the following work for a charity 'Snow Ball' in aid of St Luke's Hospice:

  • Branding
  • Poster design
  • Leaflet design
  • Ticket design
  • Website design

The brief was to create a sophisticated identify for the 'black tie' event with an 'Art Deco' style.  This was an unusual project because it was quite simple in it's purpose and it was heavily style led.

our approach

The process for this project was as follows:

  • Research into art deco styling and imagery in the form of a mood board
  • Creation of various logo ideas based around these visual references
  • Development of the ideas with the clients input to form the basis of the brand style
  • Application of the brand style to all promotional items
  • Sign off / launch

project feedback

The client was very happy with the results and the event was a complete success!

nrsb

Baseline were asked to redesign and redevelop the NRSB (Nottinghamshire Royal Society for the Blind) website. The brief was to create a colourful, fun, easy to use website.

NRSB wanted the website built so that it would be easy for them to update in house. The client wanted the added functionality to help people with various visual impairments to access the website more easily. The client needed to get people involved and to give people information via the website.

our approach

We started by streamlining and standardising the NRSB's brand identity, to create a consistent brand style throughout all communications.

Using bespoke illustrations and colour, we have created the colourful, fun website that the NRSB were looking for. The website layout and navigation has been designed to be engaging and easy to use.

The website is built in line with current best practice guidelines with regards to accessibility. We built in various sight options including different coloured text on different backgrounds, a text only function and an enlarge function. The website is built on Expression Engine which is a very flexible easy to use Content Management System.

project feedback

NRSB have been very pleased with the end result and feel that we have fulfilled all of their requirements. NRSB have become a long standing client now and regularly refer us onto other 'none profit' organisations. We are now working on more projects for the NRSB.

derby hub

Derby Hub is a 'not for profit' membership organisation, set up to help the Derbyshire business community flourish.

Derby Hub's core mission is to create a culture of giving and collaboration between Derbyshire businesses.

With the government reducing support and funding for businesses, Derby Hub is about encouraging businesses to'share business excellence', for the greater good of the Derbyshire business community.

The target market of Derby Hub is two fold:

  • Established business owners; that want to meet with likeminded businesses; share best practice knowledge and support other organisations with their experience
  • Fledgling businesses; that are wanting to meet more established businesses, get support and advice

The collaboration of both new and experienced businesses, will help all to grow their network, promote their business and ultimately become more successful.

It was great to work with the Derby Hub committee as they were very receptive of our ideas. As a result of having a client with this kind of mentality, we have been able to get them a lot of exposure and interest in a very short space of time.

scope

We were asked to undertake the following work to help with the promotion of Derby Hub:

our approach

The Derby Hub brand needed to be fresh, vibrant and inspiring. It had to encompass the core principles of Derby Hub which include sharing, collaborating and uniting.

Derby Hub is very much about the people involved, so we wanted images of the members and their guests, to feature heavily throughout all promotional material.

We created the website to be unusual, easy to use and engaging, for both the users and the administrative team at Derby Hub. The core purpose of this website is to inform people about Derby Hub and encourage people to get involved.

project feedback

Derby Hub are delighted with the work completed by Baseline and the results that are already being achieved. We are proud to be part of an organisation; which has such a fantastic buzz and presence surrounding it.

Derby Hub is going from strength to strength all the time, the monthly and weekly events have a real buzz surrounding them and membership is growing all of the time.
